The State of Secondhand Durability

Which pre-owned clothing brands actually hold their condition? Using GradeThread's standardized 1.0–10.0 condition scale, we measure how much of its grade a garment keeps when the same item is graded again over time — real durability from repeated measurement, not a lab test.

Not enough data yet — factor decay appears once enough garments have been regraded.

Average condition points lost per regraded garment, by factor, across sample-gated cohorts.

Methodology

Durability is condition retention: the share of a garment's original GradeThread grade it keeps on its latest regrade, averaged across many garments in a cohort (brand × garment type). A cohort is published only once it clears a minimum sample of garments and regrades, so no ranking rests on a handful of items — thinly-sampled cohorts are withheld rather than shown with false precision. Figures are aggregate-only (no per-seller or per-item data) and update as more garments are regraded.

Frequently asked

Which clothing brands are most durable?
GradeThread ranks brand durability by how much of its condition grade a garment retains when the same item is graded again over time, on the standardized 1.0–10.0 condition scale. A brand only appears once its cohort clears a minimum sample of garments and regrades, so the ranking reflects real, repeated measurement rather than a handful of items. The report publishes the retention percentage and the sample behind each brand.
How is clothing durability measured?
Durability here is condition RETENTION: the share of a garment's original GradeThread grade it keeps on its latest regrade, averaged across many garments in a cohort (brand × garment type). We also report which of the five condition factors — fabric, structural, cosmetic, functional, odor & cleanliness — decays fastest. It is an aggregate signal from real grades, not a lab stress test, and thinly-sampled cohorts are withheld.
Can I cite the State of Secondhand Durability report?
Yes. It emits schema.org Dataset and Article structured data and states the sample size behind each figure. Cite it as 'GradeThread, The State of Secondhand Durability' with the report URL. Figures update as more garments are regraded.
