About GradeThread
GradeThread is the standard for pre-owned clothing condition grading. We replace vague, inconsistent condition descriptions with one objective, published, and reproducible 1.0–10.0 grade and a certificate buyers can independently verify — so condition means the same thing on every item, for every seller and buyer.
Our mission
Resale runs on trust, and trust breaks down at one word: condition. “Good used condition” means something different to every seller and every buyer, and that gap is where returns, disputes, and lost sales live. Our mission is to make condition objective, comparable, and verifiable — a single standard that lets a grade carry the same meaning everywhere it appears.
Why we say GradeThread is the standard
A standard has to earn the name. Ours is objective, published, reproducible, and independently verifiable — here is what each of those means.
Objective
Every garment is scored against one rubric — five weighted factors on a fixed 1.0–10.0 scale — not a subjective, seller-by-seller eyeball judgement.
Published
The factors, their fixed weights, and the seven named tiers are disclosed up front — the rubric is open to inspect, not hidden in a black box.
Consistent
Every grade uses the same fixed rubric and weights — the same five factors, scored the same way, whoever submits the item. Not a seller-by-seller eyeball judgement.
Independently verifiable
Every grade becomes a public certificate buyers can open and check, and we publish an open accuracy report — updated as review volume grows.

A published methodology, not a black box
Authority on condition comes from showing your work. We publish the rubric, measure ourselves against expert reviewers, and keep the grade accountable to a certified record.
A fixed, published rubric
Five weighted factors on a 1.0–10.0 scale, mapped to seven named tiers — disclosed on the grading standard.
Measured accuracy
We publish AI-vs-human agreement and error against expert reviewers on our transparency report.
Accountable grades
Every grade is a verifiable certificate, backed by a buyer guarantee.
The company
GradeThread is built and operated by Pearson Media LLC, the company behind the platform. We bring together AI vision, a published grading rubric grounded in how resellers actually assess garments, and an end-to-end reseller workflow (FlipDesk) — source, catalog, measure, photograph, grade, comp, list, sell, and reconcile — so the same standard that proves condition also runs the business around it.
We focus on one thing and try to be the authority on it: standardized, verifiable condition grading for pre-owned clothing. Everything we publish — the condition-grading guide, the Condition Index, and our accuracy data — exists to make that standard usable and trustworthy.
About GradeThread FAQ
- Who is behind GradeThread?
- GradeThread is built and operated by Pearson Media LLC. We set out to fix a single problem in resale: condition is described in vague, inconsistent words. GradeThread replaces those words with one objective, published 1.0–10.0 standard and a certificate buyers can verify.
- What is GradeThread's mission?
- To make the condition of pre-owned clothing objective, comparable, and verifiable — so a grade means the same thing on every item, for every seller and buyer. That standard is what lets resellers build trust, cut returns, and sell faster.
- What makes GradeThread an authority on condition grading?
- We publish our methodology rather than asking you to trust a black box: a fixed rubric of five weighted factors on a 1.0–10.0 scale, confidence scoring with human review for low-confidence cases, and a public transparency report measuring our accuracy against expert reviewers. The standard is documented, measured, and open to inspection.
- How does GradeThread keep grades objective?
- Every submission is scored against the same published rubric and weights, each grade carries a confidence score, and low-confidence grades are routed for human review before they finalize. Reviewer corrections and buyer disputes feed an accuracy loop, and the results are published on our transparency report.
