Getting ink out of leather
What changes on leather and suede. Alcohol strips the leather's finish, so it removes the ink and the colour underneath it in the same pass.
The method for leather and suede
- 1Act immediately. Ink that has been on leather for a day has soaked past the finish and is no longer a cleaning problem.
- 2Blot, never wipe. Wiping spreads ink along the grain and into a much larger area.
- 3Use a leather-specific ink lifter, worked from the outside in with a cotton bud.
- 4Recondition the panel afterwards.
- 5For a set mark, the honest options are a professional colour touch-up or living with it.
What ruins it
No alcohol, no acetone, no magic eraser. The magic eraser is an abrasive and it takes the top layer of finish off.
