Functional Elements grading factor
Weighted 15% of the overall grade
Functional Elements make up 15% of the overall grade. This factor checks the working parts of a garment — zippers, buttons, snaps, drawstrings, and other hardware — to confirm they all operate correctly.
What graders look for
- Zippers that glide and lock without catching
- All buttons, snaps, and hooks present and secure
- Drawstrings, elastic, and Velcro still effective
- Clasps, buckles, and hardware free of corrosion
Examples
- A jacket whose main zipper is tested for smooth full travel.
- Cargo pants checked for missing snaps and a working button fly.
