A brand authenticity check is a systematic inspection that confirms a garment was actually made by the brand on its label — verifying hardware stamps, stitching patterns, materials, and construction details against known brand references. It answers one question only: is this real? It says nothing about whether the fabric is worn, the seams are stressed, or the zipper still works.

We see this confusion constantly. A seller runs a brand authenticity check on a designer trench, confirms it's genuine, and lists it as "excellent condition" because genuine felt like a proxy for good. Three days later a buyer opens a return: cuff fraying the seller never photographed, a lining tear the seller never flagged. The coat was authentic. It was also Good, not Excellent. Two different questions, two different answers, and conflating them is one of the more expensive mistakes in resale.

Brand Authenticity Check vs. Condition Grading

These are separate disciplines that happen to both matter on the same garment. An authenticity check is binary-ish — real, fake, or inconclusive. Condition grading is a spectrum — NWT, NWOT, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor — scored across five weighted factors: Fabric Condition, Structural Integrity, Cosmetic Appearance, Functional Elements, and Odor & Cleanliness.
